Trail of Trees

With the foundation formed and the students from the Port Isabel High School success center offering to help plant the trees we just needed a place for the trail.

The South Padre Island Convention Center has long rallied the support of habitat and already has the Warbler Reststop in place. When I approached them with the idea for there was no land available thru the city, they were delighted with the idea. So the trail began and for several weeks we planted over 100 trees. The students, working hard, looked forward to each day on the trail and most importantly felt a sense of purpose and community involvement.

Native Trees

Because the Tepaguaje is the platinum tree for the migratory birds we chose this as the main tree and then used the Huisache, Texas Olive, and Fiddlewood as others. The trail winds around the entire convention center.

The trees planted in the late spring have already grown two and three feet with some reaching upwards four. The trees will change in each community to represent the native trees of the area.
